Something New Is Happening in San Diego!

Something new is happening in San Diego!

Hey, I’m Elisa! I’m passionate about caring for people, empowering them, and finding creative ways to make a difference. Back in 2010 I started doing this through writing, which morphed into personal coaching, and later, consulting organizations through AverageAdvocate.com. I'm always learning how to love my neighbors better and keeping an eye out for ways to do that. Basically, if it has to do with a positive social impact--and I have the bandwidth--I’m in.

Is This Really a Way To Love Our Neighbors?

Back in the spring, I was catching up with Larry, who I know from my faith community. He started telling me about what he’s been up to. I was impressed how he's been helping people in the neighborhoods around us who are about to lose their homes in crisis. Honestly, I was more than intrigued. Housing is such a huge need in San Diego, and here’s this guy, my friend, just quietly stepping in to give people stability, hope, and dignity. Hearing him talk I knew this vision could expand.

Should We Start a Nonprofit?

When changemakers are ready to take a next step they often ask me, “Should I start a nonprofit?” Sometimes the answer is yes—but honestly, not always. Often the best way to do good is through a business. I love that through these we can do both: provide for our families and also have a mission to care for the community.

That’s what Larry and his team are doing with Community Property Rescue (CPR). I got to walk alongside Larry, David (the president), and their group of investors as they set CPR up as a California Benefit Corporation. That means their whole structure is built around being both for-profit and yet still legal is required to be community-focused.

Watching Something Good Expand

Guess what? It has been exciting to be part of. Watching CPR grow, not just here in San Diego, but also spreading into other parts of California, Texas, and beyond, feels like the start of something big. I’m grateful to be involved of it and can’t wait to see what’s next.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled to watch CPR as it blooms!
